What is Agricultural Day?
This is a school day where all Dairy Flat School children have the opportunity to showcase their hand-reared calf, lamb, kid, or chicken along with a variety of other categories for those unable to rear an animal, as well as it being our annual school fundraiser (with a variety of stalls, auctions, white elephant, games, activities, raffles, and food and drink for sale).
Animals (lamb & kid) need to be born on or after 1st July 2019 (to 15th September 2019). You will need to source your own animal. There may be a possibility of orphan lambs through school, but you need to be prepared to take the lamb as it comes - gender, breed, condition, time of day. These are orphans which may have been neglected for some time prior. There may be a small cost to cover if the lamb has required colostrum, medication etc. There may be the possibility of a lamb that can be borrowed for AG Day and returned to the farmer after AG Day. IMPORTANT NOTICE - AG DAY 2019
Following advice from the Dairy NZ and Beef+Lamb New Zealand and the Mycoplasma Bovis Response Liaison, Dairy Flat School will not be having calves as part of our Agriculture Day this year. There will also be no calves at Group day or any other Ag days in the Rodney Area.
We will still have the lamb, goat , chicken and cage competitions as usual.

Chicks (day old Brown Shavers) will be delivered on Tuesday 13th August. Please note, to enter a chick on Ag day, they must be one ordered through our school this year. See below for hints and criteria.
For students who do not enter an animal, they must choose 2 of the 4 options (scarecrow, mystery seed, caged pet, or block construction).
Scarecrow payment of $4 cash to the PTA box in the office (in a bag or envelope with name and room) - into the PTA box where the lunch orders go - or pay directly into the school PTA bank account 123 046 0270 392 00
Mystery Seed payment of $2 is required when you collect your seed and jiffy pot from Mrs Mowat in Room 1 during Term 3. To be advised when seeds arrive.
Indoor class exhibits are organised by your child's teacher. These are made at school on the Friday prior to Ag Day and displayed in class on Ag Day.

Ag Day is also our biggest annual fundraising effort for Dairy Flat School. There is an amazing amount of work that goes into Ag Day and as the saying goes - 'many hands make light work'. If you are able to volunteer your time or skill, we are always looking for people that can help.
Come along and be a part of the school community.
Each family will be supplied with a cake box prior to Ag Day. Please be prepared to fill it with home baked items suitable for sale
at the cake stall.
Each class is allocated a task on Ag Day. Each family will be required to have a representative complete an allocated 1/2 hour shift on a roster duty. You will be notified of your duty closer to Ag Day.

Where to go on Ag Day:
Map attached for lamb, goat, chicken, scarecrows, planters. A reminder Block Construction needs to be taken to the hall on Friday 26 October. Programme attached for Ag Day.
Please note, eftpos and cash out at the large open windows at the office by the lamb spit (the office is out of bounds all day so please only go to the open office window near the lamb spit). Please do try and bring coins and cash with you too for the games and raffles etc.
